Education

Johns Hopkins Hospital

  • Developing a project for publication and conducting biomedical research under the supervision of Dr. Elizabeth Jaffee:

    • Creating a new modular chimeric antigen receptor platform (uSTAR) which can be used to train the body’s immune system to better recognize cancer cells.

  • Developing a project for publication and conducting biomedical research under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Powell:

    • Investigating the role of adenosine receptor (A2aR) antagonists and SGK inhibitors as a novel cancer immunotherapy.

    • Drug screening experimental pharmaceutical drugs to bring into clinical trials.

  • Developing a project for publication and conducting pathology research under the supervision of Dr. Aaron James

    • Examining the role of mesenchymal stem cells and TrkA/NGF interactions in heterotopic ossification.

    • Performing histo-morphometric analysis to quantify vasculature in heterotopic ossification.

Children's Hospital Of Eastern Ontario

  • Developing two separate projects for publication and conducting biomedical research:

    • Finding the relationship between SMAC mimetic treatment and CD8 T Cell activation specifically analyzing its role as a costimulatory molecule as a substitute for OX40L presentation.

    • Creating new modular chimeric antigen receptor constructs (CART Cells) which can be used to train the body’s immune system to better recognize cancer cells.

  • Developing a project for publication and conducting biomedical research:

    • Characterization of the role of p53 and arresten interactions in tumor biogenesis using CRISPR technology under the supervision of Dr. Jose Teodoro.

  • Developing two separate projects for publication and conducting biomedical research:

    • Implementation of a novel bioengineered gene into a mutated Vesicular Stomatitis Indiana Virus (VSV) platform for applications in cancer therapy and oncolytic virology

    • Testing the effects of novel checkpoint inhibitors such as monoclonal PD-1 antibodies for applications cancer immunology.

  • Under the supervision of Dr. Robert Korneluk, Dr. Eric LaCasse, and Dr. Shawn Beug

  • Developing two separate projects for publication and conducting biomedical research:

    • Designing a new genetic mechanism to increase efficacy of oncolytic viruses and their ability to target cancer cells and implementing said genetic mechanisms into an adenoviral vector to create libraries of oncolytic viruses with both therapeutic and diagnostic applications.  Under the supervision of Dr. Angela Crawley, Dr. Robin Parks, Dr. Jean-Simon Diallo, Dr. Robert Korneluk, Dr. Shawn Beug, Dr. Eric LaCasse, and Dr. Miodrag Bolic.

    • Testing the efficacy of a cytokine called Thymic Stromal Lymphopoietin (TSLP) to activate CD8+ cells and develop immunity against particular HIV antigens such as gp120. Under the supervision of Dr. Angela Crawley.

  • Designed and optimized new systems for the extraction of biofuels from natural sources such as algae and characterized their caloric potential compared to existing fuels.

  • Created protocols for cost-effective implementation of algal biofuels into real world applications.
